Education Across the States runs local internships across the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories for aspiring journalists. Interns cover education where they live: school board and public meetings, in-person interviews, and research from primary sources — the reporting a national show can't do from a desk.
Who can apply: open to applicants 18 or older who are their own legal guardian, in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. territories — Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands.
Published bylines on a national platform when your vetted work airs. Training in public-records and education-beat reporting. Real supervision and feedback on every submission. A portfolio of broadcast-standard work, and a completion letter from the producer at the end of a successful term.
Everything you produce is submitted to the producer for vetting — every claim checked against its source — before anything airs. Interviews are recorded only with clear consent. Nothing is ever invented: no quotes, no figures, no exceptions. Terms run one semester (12–14 weeks), hours are flexible and built around your schedule, and the internship is unpaid and educational in structure, designed to pair with academic credit where your college or university offers it.
Every participant in this program must be 18 or older and their own legal guardian. We do not offer internships to anyone under 18 in any channel — there is no high-school, ELO, or school-partnership track, and no parental-consent route. If you are under 18, please do not apply and do not send us your information; we do not collect information from anyone under 18.
Email educationacrossthestates@gmail.com with your name, your city and state, your school or background, two writing or audio samples (class work is fine), one local education story idea from your community, and your availability. If it looks like a fit, the next step is a short call with the producer's office.
